Become Fundamentally Sound With Tennis Drills For Kids

A great way for tennis players to become quicker when moving side to side is by utilizing resistance to make the muscles responsible for completing this motion work harder than they would during a normal tennis match. This resistance, mixed with a fundamentally challenging tennis drill for kids, will help a young tennispro develop more speed and control while moving around the tennis court during a tennis match.

To perform and execute the TennisPro Resisted Backhand Return Drill, beginning tennis athletes will need a tennis racket, a set of Kbands Leg Resistance Bands, a Speed and Agility Cone, and a coach or partner to serve the tennis balls during the TennisPro Resisted Backhand Return. Young tennis players will attach the Kbands Leg Resistance Bands just above their knees and line up at the midline of the baseline. Athletes and coaches should place a Speed and Agility Cone at the midline to aid the athlete throughout the Tennispro Resisted Backhand Return. Athletes will only work on one side of the midline during the tennis for beginners backhand drill.

Athletes will position themselves at the midline as their coach or partner begins the TennisPRo Resisted Backhand Return by serving the tennis ball to the athlete. Athletes should return every volley using a backhand shot to return the ball to a playable spot on the opposite side of the net. Following each backhand return athletes will laterally shuffle quickly back to the midline and prepare for the next serve across the net. Coaches or partners serving the tennis balls during the tennis for beginners drill should wait until the athlete has returned to the midline before serving the next tennis ball to them. Athletes need to work against the resistance created from the Kbands Leg Resistance Bands and quickly move laterally both before and after the backhand shot has been taken.

Athletes will perform 3-5 rounds of 8-12 backhand returns before removing the Kbands Leg Resistance Bands and performing 1-2 unresisted sets of the Tennispro Resisted Backhand Return. Athletes should take 60-90 seconds of rest between sets of the tennis for beginners drill.

Use Game Like Returns During The Tennis For Beginners Drill

For a sports specific training drill, like the TennisPro Resisted Backhand Return, to be effective athletes must make the drill mimic a regular tennis match. This means that when athletes are returning the tennis balls back across the tennis net they should place the shot in a position that they would during a regular tennis match. Practicing the same shots that athletes will take during a regular match will allow them to practice these shots as well as train their muscles to make these accurate shots time and time again. This will inevitably lead to greater success during competition and more intense and effective training sessions.

Practicing moving their body at a high pace will allow athletes to better position their body when moving from side to side. Practicing better body positioning during this tennis for beginners drill is another way to increase the accuracy of a backhand return and will allow for more accurate shots during tennis matches.

By using the Kbands Leg Resistance Bands to perform both resisted and unresisted sets of the tennis for beginners drill young tennis players will force the hip flexors, glutes, and thighs to operate under a greater amount of tension than normal. This is an effective training method to not only improve the strength of the leg muscles, which is gained during the resisted sets of tennis drills for kids, but also this training method improves the speed and increases the rate at which the muscles can fire during unresisted sets of the TennisPro Resisted Backhand Return Drill.
