A tight chamber, along with good hip rotation and strength, are essential to any mixed martial artists kicking power and overall effectiveness. Martial artists need to be solid in these two areas in order to maximize the power generated by their kicks. A good chamber will allow the martial artists to take full advantage of their strength and explosiveness, while allowing for a quicker more efficient strike.

With the help of resistance provided by Kbands, practicing the Spinning Hook Kick Drill will allow martial artists to see significant improvements in the power generated through their chamber and by their hips. Adding the Spinning Hook Kick to a martial artists skill set will give martial artists an excellent resistance bands drill to improve their spinning ability and add an excellent kick to strike an opponent from the side.

Practicing the Spinning Hook Kick will allow martial artists to work on their spinning ability, as well as implement an excellent move to strike an opponent from the side. Spinning Hook Kick Martial Arts Resistance Bands Drill: Getting Started

The set up for the martial arts resistance bands drill requires a set of Kbands, room to perform the Spinning Hook Kick, and a coach or partner to offer advice and watch form throughout the execution of the martial arts resistance bands drill.

Martial artists need to be sure to securely attach the Kbands directly above the knees to provide proper resistance during the Spinning Hook Kick. After the Kbands have been attached athletes will assume a good starting position and prepare to execute the Spinning Hook Kick.

Before the Spinning Hook Kick Drill is performed partners need to be aware of their responsibilities. Partners should be at the same or a higher level of martial arts so they can effectively watch for breakdowns in form and technique.

Spinning Hook Kick Martial Arts Resistance Bands Drill: Executing/Performing the Move

From a good starting position martial artists will step out into their stance. The mixed martial artist will bring their hips up as quickly as possible and chamber their knee tightly into their chest. As martial artists chamber the knee they will quickly turn their head and make eye contact with the target. While turning the head and eyes, martial artists will need to keep their knee tightly chambered to the chest and ensure the hips are tight to the chest as well.

A tight chamber is a key component to the Spinning Hook Kick. The force and power produced by the kick begin with a good tight chamber.

Following the eyes, the hips will begin to rotate around as martial artists prepare to extend their leg and finish the Spinning Hook Kick. Martial artists need to remember to be fundamentally sound while performing the martial arts resistance bands drill. As martial artists move through the Spinning Hook Kick they need to remember to keep a level plane. During the Spinning Hook Kick martial artists need to be sure the heel starts and ends at the same height. Be sure the resistance is not pulling the leg in the wrong direction. Paying attention to little details during training sessions can lead to greater success and execution of the Spinning Hook Kick.

Spinning Hook Kick Martial Arts Resistance Bands Drill: Sets/Repetitions/Final Notes

The Spinning Hook Kick Martial Arts Resistance Bands Drill will be performed for 10 resisted repetitions on each side. The first ten repetitions of the martial arts resistance bands drill will be performed without full leg extension. Martial artists will rotate the hips and stop the move just before they extend their leg to finish the Spinning Hook Kick. During the next 10 repetitions of the Spinning Hook Kick athletes will perform the entire kick, performing ten resisted repetitions on each side. After the full Spinning Hook Kick has been performed on each side martial artists will remove the Kbands, and perform 10 more repetitions of the martial arts resistance bands drill un-resisted on both sides.

Increase Kicking Power With Kbands

The ten Spinning Hook Kicks should be performed in succession, one after the other, and breaks should be taken in between sets of the Spinning Hook Kick drill. Proper rest and recovery should be given so martial artists can perform the Spinning Hook Kick explosively and with maximum power. If a martial artists is to exhausted they may revert to poor body positioning and technique. Partners need to pay just as much attention to rest time as the participant. Having a watch or clock handy can help to regulate breaks throughout the Spinning Hook Kick drill.

While executing the martial arts resistance band drill the number of repetitions for the Spinning Hook Kick can be lowered. If martial artists performing the Spinning Hook Kick are having trouble completing the required number of repetitions with good form lower the repetitions until they are at a challenging but acceptable number of repetitions. Having good habits while practicing will turn into good form and technique during competition. Using proper form and technique will train the body and the nervous system to perform that movement the same way it is being practiced. This means during competition or training, less thought and energy will be put into form and technique as the body will already know what to do.
