Athletes who regularly practice general baseball speed training drills with and without resistance will see great improvements in their overall speed and quickness. Using this same resistance training, but incorporating more sports specific baseball speed training drills, will help athletes hone their abilities, and optimize these sport specific baseball speed training movements during game situations.

When moving back and forth on the base path athletes can only move in both lateral, and linear paths between the bases. The best exercises athletes can use to increase their speed when moving between the bases are those baseball speed training drills which incorporate both linear and lateral baseball speed training movements.

As athletes begin to transition from their forward sprint into their lateral shuffle athletes will take short choppy steps, stay low, and quickly drive the feet.
