What works best for the average Joe? Should you do volume training or more intense workouts? The real question is how often can you workout? I find that with having two young children, three days a week is all that I can commit to weight training. Over the past couple years I have shifted from a volume based workout schedule, to a Dorian Yates based method. I do not take steroids so I do not get enormous muscle gains as you may think. But Dorian Yates's workout methods work wonders for someone looking to get in shape. It's difficult to keep my mind focused on true muscle stimulus with volume training, but by utilizing his method of complete failure sets on a muscle group I have achieved great results. Mentally, I only have to focus on breaking down the muscle and then move on to the next muscle group. This method has cut my workout time dramatically and induced the same results.
