Kbands Baseball Fielding Drills
When athletes complete drills which replicate movements and actions performed in real games they are able to hone those skills specific to that sport and those situations. If a baseball player wants to get better at making baseball plays it makes sense that they would perform baseball workouts, mixed in with other speed, agility, flexibility, and strength training.
Kbands Baseball Academy Drills | Hands And Foot Speed Baseball Workouts
For athletes to make great baseball plays they need to have quick and explosive lateral movements. The Kbands Baseball Academy hands and foot speed baseball workouts implement Kbands with quick lateral movements and baseball specific movements to challenge and improve infielders ability to move laterally to make a play on the baseball.
To set up the Kbands Baseball Academy Drill athletes will need 2-3 baseballs or Chaos Balls, 2 Speed and Agility Cones, a set of Kbands, a baseball glove, and a partner. Athletes will place the two Speed and Agility Cones 5-8 feet apart as their partner positions themselves in front, and in the center, of the Speed and Agility Cone set up. Athletes will securely attach the Kbands just above their knees as they line up in the center of the Speed And Agility Cone set up facing their partner, so Speed And Agility Cones are on both sides of the athlete. Baseball players will begin the Kbands Baseball Academy Drill by quickly shuffling laterally to one of the Speed and Agility Cones. While the baseball player is moving laterally they will simulate making baseball plays by having their assisting partner throw ground balls to them which they must quickly catch out in front of their body and return to their partner with an underhand throw. Once athletes toss the baseball back to their partner they will quickly begin moving laterally toward the opposite Speed And Agility Cone.
Athletes will perform 4-6 resisted sets of 10-12 seconds before removing the Kbands and performing 1-2 unresisted sets of the Kbands Baseball Academy Drill. Athletes performing this baseball plays drill in a group or team setting will immediately move and allow the next athlete to perform the Kbands Hand And Foot Speed Drill, while athletes performing the baseball workouts by themselves can take 40-60 seconds of rest between sets.
Kbands Baseball Academy Drills | Baseball Shakedown Drill
To complete the Kbands Baseball Academy Baseball Shakedown Drill athletes will need 6 Speed and Agility Cones placed in two rows of three with 5-8 yards between Speed and Agility Cones. Athletes should form a large rectangle with the Speed and Agility Cone set up. Athletes will also need a partner, 2-3 baseballs, a baseball glove, and a set of Kbands. After attaching the Kbands just above their knees athletes will take their baseball glove and line up at one of the rear Speed and Agility Cones. Athletes will begin the Baseball Shakedown Drill by explosively sprinting forward to the Speed and Agility Cone in front of them. Upon reaching this Speed and Agility Cone athletes will shuffle their feet, perform a drop step, and diagonally sprint to the Speed and Agility Cone diagonal to them. Upon reaching this Speed and Agility Cone athletes will shuffle their feet, sprint to the Speed and Agility Cone in front of them, and repeat the process to the end of the Speed and Agility Cone set up. Once athletes have performed the Shakedown Drill 1-2 times from each side they will utilize their partner to enhance their abilities to make baseball plays.
After the initial repetitions of the Kbands Baseball Academy Drill have been completed partners will begin to force the athletes to make baseball plays while performing the same running routine through the Speed and Agility Cone set up. As athletes sprint forward partners will throw a manageable ground ball to be fielded, and returned, by the athlete performing the Kbands Baseball Academy Drill. As athletes sprint back diagonally partners will simulate a fly ball which should be caught and quickly returned or discarded by the athlete. Adding baseball plays to the Kbands Shakedown Drill makes this an excellent sports specific training drill which will teach athletes body control and coordination.
Complete 4-6 resisted rounds of the Kbands Baseball Academy Drill before removing the resistance bands and performing 2 unresisted rounds. Be sure athletes are alternating which side of the Speed and Agility Cone set up they begin the Kbands Shakedown Drill. Allow 40-60 seconds of rest between sets unless performing in a team or small group setting.
Kbands Baseball Academy Drills | Lateral Leaps
For infielders to make more baseball plays they need to be explosive and quick laterally. This is seen when you see a third baseman or shortstop making a great diving play on the line or up the middle to save a hit.
To perform the baseball plays drill athletes will need a set of Kbands and 2 Speed and Agility Cones. Athletes performing the baseball plays drill will place the Speed and Agility Cones at a challenging, but attainable, distance apart. Athletes will attach the Kbands just above their knees and line up at one of the Speed and Agility Cones so the opposite Speed and Agility is at their side. Athletes will begin the resisted lateral baseball plays drill by explosively jumping off their outside foot, toward the opposite Speed and Agility Cone, and switching legs and landing on their opposite, outside foot. Athletes will then stabilize on this outside landing foot, and explosively jump back to the starting Speed and Agility Cone, again switching legs and landing on their outside foot. Athletes will perform 8-10 resisted jumps before switching with a teammate or partner, or resting for 40-60 seconds. Athletes will perform 4-6 resisted sets of the resisted lateral baseball plays drill before removing the Kbands and performing 2 unresisted sets of the Kbands Baseball Academy Drill.
