Girls Speed Drill For Soccer Players

Whenever organizing your girls soccer training it’s important to keep things fun that give results. When working with younger soccer players it’s important to get into skills specific work first. Younger athletes are there to play the sport they came to play. Work through soccer specific drills for shooting, passing, and defense first. We have tons of drills throughout the soccer training section that will help you with this. This specific drill will target speed. We like to utilize speed training towards the end of the workout with younger athletes.

Stay Organized And Utilize Stations

Setup multiple stations with a variety of exercises so that the girls stay on task. Make sure that each drill rotates within 4 to 5 minutes so that you are able to build speed skills within 15 to 20 minutes at the end of practice. This station is a rapid response focused drill. It is great for building fast twitch muscles throughout the legs to help with running speed and footwork. Coaches will be very active during this drill calling out different directions with the athletes to drop step. You can change the format by moving forward, backwards, and side to side.

Review the video several times so that you understand the footwork necessary to complete the drill properly. Keep the ladies focused on fast feet and utilize progressions. If the girls soccer players are not great at moving backwards then work this in at a later time. Get them comfortable with the exercise first before challenging too many directions.
