Make Your Stairs Work For You - 5 Minute Stair Workout

A flight of stairs can be more than just an enemy. Everyone knows climbing flights of stairs is no fun. Your legs begin to burn as it increases your heart rate. These are all benefits to a workout though. During this exercise we will utilize a flight of stairs to increase the stamina in our legs.

The first portion of the drill is going to be an exchange exercise. Quickly step and switch your feet as quick as possible. With resistance you’ll feel the burn in your glutes and quads. Continually cycle through each step for 45 seconds.

The second portion of the exercise is a lateral high knee up the stairs. By driving off the ground to move vertically up the stairs you will feel more resistance. Be conscious of your footwork and place your feet precisely up the stairs. A miss step may result in a roll ankle so be conscious of where you are stepping. If you become more advanced, then consider moving up two stairs at a time as you go.

Experiment with the time durations of each set and challenge your conditioning. If you are exercising with a group, you can easily cycle through multiple athletes.
